How can I donate to the food drive?

There are two ways you can donate: 1) the food drive bins located in the lobby of your residence and 2) virtually through this link: https://app.mobilecause.com/vf/VFD/WardVillage

What are the dates of the Ward Village food drive?

The physical and virtual drive will be running from November 2 – November 24 but we encourage those who are able to donate to give all year long!

What kind of items can I place in the donation bin?

The top 5 most wanted items are:

1. Canned meals
2. Canned protein
3. Caned Fruit
4. Canned Vegetables
5. Rice

In addition to these items, we can accept most non-perishable food items. Once the items are received, they go through the food bank’s salvage area for inspection prior to being placed on the distribution floor.

How does my donation help those in need?

As COVID-19 continues to impact Hawaii, we are experiencing an extraordinary challenge of providing food to thousands of households newly at risk of experiencing food insecurity, alongside those who were already struggling with hunger before the crisis began. Since Hawaii’s statewide first “stay at home, work at home” order was implemented on March 25, demand for food assistance has increased by more than 50 percent – accounting for the fifth highest increase in food insecurity in the United States. This number includes a growing number of high-risk, homebound kūpuna and now nearly 90,000 keiki. With the added circumstances surrounding COVID-19, food distribution has averaged more than 2 million pounds each month since March — totaling more than 17 million pounds of food distributed in eight months. Since mid-April, Hawaii Foodbank has purchased more than $1 million in locally-grown produce — supporting 25 Hawaii farms in the process and distributing their food to Hawaii households in need. This has been an investment in our local economy, Hawaii’s future to be self-sustaining and, ultimately, Hawaii Foodbank’s mission. The long-term sustainability of our home is critical, and Hawaii Foodbank is committed to being a part of Hawaii’s solution – during COVID-19 and beyond.
